Grade 2

Hourly rate: £12.00 plus holiday entitlement

Background 

The role is required to assist Careers Network in enhancing its reach and to provide support for increasing student engagement with the service. 

 

Role Summary 

Careers Network (CN) Student Engagement Assistants will be responsible for supporting CN’s Student Engagement Manager in developing student communications and in marketing and promoting CN activities and events. The roles will focus on digital communications and social media, together with a range of activities to raise CN’s brand with students. This will involve creating and contributing to content and providing a student perspective on relevance, look and feel. You may also be supporting two of our key programs The Birmingham Award and The Birmingham Project. 

 

Main Duties

  • Developing and scheduling social media, including liaising with Careers Network colleagues regarding requests 
  • Creating marketing assets 
  • Assisting in the creation of engaging digital communications, including collating content as provided, liaising with colleagues, creating content where appropriate and providing input re: style, look and feel
  • Monitoring other UoB accounts and university careers social media to benchmark and review best practice and suggest approaches to content curation for a student audience
  • Developing stories and additional CN content 
  • Supporting activities to raise the Careers Network brand on campus, to include working with student groups and target cohorts and on collaborative projects
  • To review vacancy approvals on our database Careers Connect
  • Contributing to the delivery of relevant CN events to support with the marketing of activities e.g. liaising with students at careers fairs and sharing experiences with peers

 

Person Specification 

What we are looking for

Applications from current undergraduates and postgraduates

  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and public speaking skills
  • Proofreading and copywriting skills
  • Demonstrable knowledge and passion for social media
  • Creativity and the confidence to suggest new ideas 
  • Good IT skills
  • Strong organizational skills and good time management
  • Enthusiasm and flexibility
  • Initiative and creativity
  • Tact and diplomacy
  • Commitment to the hours required

 

Desirable, but not essential

  • Experience of using social media scheduling software
  • Experience of using email campaign software such as Mailjet
  • Good knowledge/experience of existing Careers Network programmes and activities, including the Personal Skills Award
