Working within our programme delivery team, you will work closely with colleagues and residents to lead strategic change projects that deliver real change for Newham. You’ll be joining at a critical time for Newham, gaining the opportunity to shape how the organisation approaches change; helping us to work in a more agile and people focussed way.
The team is focussed on building an innovative and cutting-edge services; working collaboratively as part of multi-disciplinary teams which include our service design, policy and digital teams.
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Project Manager, who will lead exciting, complex projects of transformation and change across the organisation.
This role takes responsibility for directly managing projects within the delivery function, working closely with service teams. Our projects are centred on delivering better outcomes to Newham’s residents and working to ensure the financial sustainability of the council through increasing income and delivering savings.
We are keen to hear from candidates with experience of projects within these complex service areas, although previous experience in local government is not a necessary requirement. The role requires a good working understanding of project methodologies and experience of delivering projects from initiation to completion.

With a key focus on project management, you will have a proven track record in leading major change projects that transform how organisations work in accordance with best-practice methodologies.

The London Borough of Newham is located only 5 miles east of London. It is well positioned with access to all major networks in London and the south east. It is well connected by public transport with, bus, tube and DLR. When the Crossrail service opens it will call at Custom House close to our council offices and also Stratford station and from there to central London. The London City Airport which serves major European cities is located at Royal Albert Dock. Newham has the youngest overall population in the country. It was one of the six host boroughs for the 2012 Summer Olympics and contains most of the Olympic Park including the London Stadium. It has a thriving arts quarter with the Theatre Royal Stratford East offering excellent entertainment for all the family. There is the University of East London which has two campuses in Newham, one in Stratford and another next to the regenerated Royal Albert Dock. It also has a large Westfield shopping Centre in Stratford which has all the major retailers there.
Newham has a large housing regeneration programme that will build over 1,000 new council homes by 2022.
