The team is formed of the Culture and Creative Economy team (led by the Head of Culture and Creative Economy) and the Business and Inward Investment team (led by the Head of Economic Development – this role).

About the Role:

As the Head of Economic Development, you will be responsible for leading our strategic sector and cluster development initiatives to unlock high value job growth and promote Lambeth’s involvement in strategic partnerships. Responsible for a team of six, and working across a significant network of partners, you will ensure that the team deliver high quality economic development projects that generate income and positive outcomes for local people. These include:

  • Affordable workspace - The team provide strategic input into the council’s Local Plan and S106 negotiations on major development schemes and deliver the £8 million Future Workspace Fund. We have invested in 10 projects currently, including our Sustainable Ventures’ workspace at County Hall - Europe’s largest clean tech hub.
  • Green economy - Last year we developed and adopted a green economy strategy. This is an exciting new area of work for the team, building on the success of Sustainable Ventures. We are currently setting an Innovation Challenge – pairing local anchor institutions with climate tech innovators to tackle problems together – and delivering the strategy in partnership with a network of likeminded stakeholders.
  • SC1 - This is a health and life science innovation district partnership, with a mission to deliver health equity for local and global populations. The forthcoming Royal Street development will provide a major affordable workspace contribution to support the health and life sciences sector in the borough.
