Operational Impacts and Community Engagement Lead at Heathrow
London, United Kingdom

Job Descrption

The Engagement Lead – Operational Impacts has the critical role of owning the engagement with Heathrow’s local community stakeholders on key operational impacts, in particular noise and airspace change.

We know that aircraft noise and air quality remain an issue for those living around the airport. That’s why we strive to work together with our local communities, airlines, NATS and the Government to understand, monitor, manage and reduce the effects of aircraft operations.

As the Engagement Lead – Operational Impacts you will have three key priorities: building an understanding amongst local stakeholders of Heathrow’s activities to reduce noise, managing the communication of our multi-million-pound noise insulation scheme and supporting internal stakeholders to engage communities on airspace change and other relevant operational activities and business changes.

  • Being responsible for the Operational Impacts Engagement Team, including line management and being a budget holder, and leading on the local stakeholder engagement strategy and delivery for airspace, noise and air quality.
  • Overseeing the Heathrow Noise and Airspace Community Forum (NACF) and any related sub-groups to ensure effective engagement between communities and the business. You will be the relationship lead for the NACF Independent Chair.
  • Providing strategic advice across the business on all external messaging, engagement and communication activities related to local operational impacts (Heathrow’s current noise action plan; future airspace; air quality and other operational changes) to ensure all external messaging on the topics is accurate, accessible and consistent across all stakeholder groups.
  • Representing Heathrow at stakeholder meetings and forums to talk confidently and knowledgeably about Heathrow’s local operational impacts, future airspace changes as well as the current noise management regime.
  • Devising and delivering a regular programme of proactive engagement on Heathrow’s noise reduction activities (summarised in Heathrow’s Noise Action Plan), including regular community communications, ensuring that local communities affected by airport noise are kept informed, can have their say and know who to contact. This includes the delivery of relevant engagement-related actions in the NAP.
  • Demonstrable experience in implementing sound engagement and communications strategies on challenging, technical, and sensitive topics.
  • Good understanding of how aviation operations work, and its related rules, policies and regulations gained through working in the industry.
  • Strong capability and experience in building and maintaining relationships with a network of challenging stakeholders gained from working in a similar engagement role.
  • Competent in building internal and external relationships and experience in providing high-level communications advice and briefings, including reporting, to senior colleagues. While also having the ability to influence outcomes effectively by having the confidence and credibility to constructively challenge colleagues.
