Net Zero Transition Manager at Heathrow
London, United Kingdom

Job Descrption

Climate change is Heathrow’s top risk. The Carbon Strategy team sets the company’s net zero strategy, sponsors our £250m Carbon & Sustainability capital programme, provides the analytics to track and forecast performance, and engages key stakeholders to understand emerging issues, collaborate, influence and advocate.

Carbon data sits at the heart of our work. Heathrow is legally required to disclose an annual “carbon footprint” and since the launch of our first Sustainability Linked Bond in 2023, carbon performance is core business. We have built carbon costs into our future traffic forecasts and will only secure planning permission to expand if we are on track with our plans.

This role will involve leading the carbon forecasting capability, reviewing strategic priorities, informing business decisions, supporting data-driven culture, and engaging with external stakeholders on our transition to net zero.

  • Analyse carbon performance against the transition pathways that you will further develop. Use this intelligence to enhance our understanding of the carbon impact of business activities and decisions, such as in relation to capital and resource allocation, and offer strategic challenge to optimise our transition to net zero.
  • Improve the accuracy and sophistication of our modelling, integrating carbon with other business data to enable effective business decision-making and informing market communications, such as through our Climate-related Financial Disclosures and ESG reporting.
  • Provide evidence-led input and a suite of continuously updated core assumptions to guide the evolution of our net zero strategy, informed by data and market intelligence, including gained from participation in key industry and stakeholder groups in the UK and globally.
  • Offer subject matter expertise on key transition risks such as the UK’s energy transition. You will bring, or will have the opportunity to develop, aviation specific subject matter expertise, such as on issues such as airspace modernisation and airport operations.
  • Provide business partnering with Finance/ ESG colleagues on climate-related financial disclosures and the development of initiatives to drive net zero outcomes, such as the use of internal carbon pricing.
  • Work with policy colleagues to ensure net zero transition considerations are fully integrated in Heathrow’s policy advocacy activities and to inform policy developments to support aviation decarbonisation.
  • Relevant experience from STEM focussed roles.
  • Knowledge and experience of data science methods, tools, and languages.
  • Ability to communicate and network with people at all levels to enable effective cross functional working with the wider business.
  • Excellent presentational skills, being able to turn data into a clearly understood narrative which gains buy in from stakeholders.
  • Motivated by a continuous drive to find and deliver improvements, with a focus on automation and insight.
