The City of Pearland, TX is seeking to hire a full-time Sign Technician to assist with day-to-day operations of our Engineering and Public Works Department.

Our Sign Technician earns a competitive hourly salary of $16.12 - $17.45 based on qualifications. Additionally, the city pays all premiums for our employees' dental, long-term disability protection, and life insurance plus the majority portion of the medical premium for employees and their dependents. A DAY IN THE LIFE AS A SIGN TECHNICIAN

The purpose of this job within the organization is to perform and assist with activities involving maintenance of traffic control components.

This job works under close to general supervision according to set procedures but determines how or when to complete tasks.

Essential Functions:

• Installs, maintains, inspects, assembles and replaces traffic control signs; responds to emergency calls for repairs.
• Installs and maintains pavement markings such as lane assignments, school zones and crosswalks.
• Performs neighborhood surveys for sign replacement.
• Enters completed work orders in computer system.
• Maintains shop inventory.
• Serves as essential personnel in natural or manmade disasters; responds to emergency calls.
• Assists with signal division and right of way division service calls as needed.

Additional Duties:

• Maintains and installs school zone signs; fabricates and installs signs for existing and new subdivisions.
• Sets traffic control according to Texas Department of Highways and Transportation.
• Paints and maintains original markings on City streets surfaces.
• Conducts safety meetings for peers and supervisors.
• Performs related work as assigned.

Education, Experience, and Licenses:

• Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent.
• Requires three months mechanical, construction, traffic control or closely related experience.

Special Certifications and Licenses:

• Valid Texas Driver's License
