About the Department:: The library has several spaces for collaborating and facilitating blended learning whilst still offering quiet and traditional services. The library’s rich academic resources are dedicated to assist UoWD students, alumni and staff through its ever evolving and ever-growing collection of print and electronic resources, including electronic journals, links to subject-based resources, standards and statistical information. It also aims to support University research alongside teaching and learning. Students can also borrow laptops for their studies and assignments.
About the Role:: Position Objective: To support the Library and Learning Services in providing service to library clients, circulating materials, reinforcing library rules and regulations, organizing and processing materials, organizing the circulation desk, and helping clients.
Principal Responsibilities:
Deliver frontline circulation services, ensuring smooth operations and user satisfaction.
Use and assist in the automated integrated library system to check out, check-in, and renew the lending of library materials.
Assists students and staff in accessing the online library catalog, course reserves, and databases.
Resolve account issues such as overdue items, fines, and missing/lost materials.
Assist users in navigating both physical and digital collections, including e-resources, open educational resources, and institutional repositories.
Provide basic reference services and facilitate access to specialized support from research librarians.
Support the integration of digital tools, Library management systems, and research management platforms into students' and faculty workflows.
Answers circulation desk and telephone as necessary and gives basic information or directs the question to appropriate staff.
Assist in using Library facilities, technology and services
Manage group study spaces, ensuring they are equipped with the necessary technology to support collaborative learning.
Maintain and supervise group study rooms during operational hours.
Support
Report internet and technical issues to the Technical Support team
Performs opening and closing procedures including turning on/off the equipment and facilities when working the evening and weekend shift.
Contribute to the library’s social media presence, promoting events, resources, and services.
Collaborate on library marketing efforts to increase engagement with new services and resources
Performs other duties as requested by the Manager, Library and Learning Services
Qualifications and Skills:
Essential
Completion of Bachelor’s Degree in Library/Information Science
Ability to use initiative, work well under pressure, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
Computer proficiency including Excel, SharePoint, etc.
Organizational skills and ability to prioritize
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Problem-solving skills and customer relations skills
Preferred
Previous University library experience
Flexibility regarding working hours
Must have a strong work ethic and adhere to the confidentiality of user records.
Ability to work independently on assigned tasks and willingness to learn new tasks.
Must possess a positive attitude, enthusiasm, and desire for helping people.
