Hardware Development Engineer - Gloucester - HybridMy client is looking for a highly skilled Hardware Development Engineer with expertise in DO-254 to join their dynamic engineering team on a 6 month contract, to begin with. In this role, you will be responsible for the design, installation, protection, inspection, and maintenance of electronic hardware development. Your work will directly impact the safety and reliability of critical systems used in aerospace and defense applications.As an expert of DO-254, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety, reliability and maintenance in accordance with the relevant regulations and standards.The client is looking for an experienced Hardware Development Engineer with a strong background in DO-254 compliance and expertise in working with high-voltage systems, specifically within the range of 28V to 1500V.Rate - 562 / 600 day rate (open to Inside or Outside IR35)On-site / Hybrid (2 -3 days on site)Key Responsibilities:Demonstrate deep... familiarity with the RTCA DO-254 / EUROCAE ED-80 standards, which provide guidance for the design assurance of airborne electronic hardware.Apply knowledge of the hardware design life cycle, including planning processes, and validation and verification procedures, to ensure compliance.Hardware Assurance Activities:Conduct thorough hardware reviews, including preparation, execution, documentation of findings, and follow-up activities to address issues.Ensure that complex electronic hardware, such as custom micro-coded components and integrated technology components, complies with DO-254 objectives.Process Assurance:Establish and maintain a comprehensive paper trail of internal meetings, reviews, and audits to demonstrate compliance with DO-254 requirements.Document all activities to provide clear evidence of adherence to standards during certification processes.Certification Level Considerations:Understand and apply the five levels of DO-254 compliance (A through E), based on the potential impact of hardware failure on aircraft safety.Ensure that all hardware development activities align with the appropriate level of compliance.Collaboration and Coaching:Collaborate closely with design teams, certification authorities, and other key stakeholders to achieve regulatory-compliant solutions.Provide coaching and mentoring to team members to enhance their understanding of DO-254 requirements and best practices.Qualifications:Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Avionics Engineering, or a related field.Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in electronic hardware development within aviation or a related industry.Regulatory Knowledge: Knowledge of A/C regulations, standards, and guidelines such as [AMC 20-21], [AMC 20-22], and [AMC 20-23].Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in software and tools for PCB design and development.Hardware Expertise: Experience in hardware analysis, testing, inspection, and troubleshooting, particularly in high-voltage environments (28V to 1500V).Independent & Team Work: Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.Communication Skills: Excellent communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills.Attention to Detail: High attention to detail with a strong focus on quality orientation.Preferred Qualifications / Experience:Familiarity with additional industry standards (e.g., DO-178C, ARP4754A).Experience in safety-critical systems engineering and integration.If you're interested in this position, please apply.
