At Cancer Research UK, we exist to beat cancer.

We are professionals with purpose, beating cancer every day. But we need to go much further and much faster. That's why we're looking for someone talented, someone who wants to develop their skills, someone like you.

We have a new... opportunity for Medical Lead to join our Centre for Drug Development. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated individual with either experience working in drug development in the pharmaceutical industry or a CCT in oncology. Someone who is dedicated and passionate about using their skills and knowledge to help beat cancer and save millions of lives.

You should be medically qualified with previous oncology experience. Current registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) to practice medicine in the UK is essential.

About the team

The Cancer Research UK Centre for Drug Development (CDD) is the world's only charity-funded drug development facility. Our pioneering research is driven purely by the goal to see scientific breakthroughs bring benefits to patients sooner.

CDD is the sponsor of early phase and precision medicine clinical trials in oncology agents. Our broad portfolio rivals that of a medium-sized pharmaceutical company, spanning antibodies, cell therapies, vaccines, drug conjugates and small molecules, making this an interesting and dynamic area to work in.

What will you be doing?
• Provide expert and timely medical advice within Centre for Drug Development (CDD) and to be responsible for the medical input into allocated projects, including the clinical aspects of regulatory documents and interpretation of emerging clinical and preclinical data
• Be accountable for the broader clinical strategy and development of agents (at both clinical and preclinical stages), in particular the design of CDD trials for allocated projects
• Give medical input to cross-functional teams, including playing an active role in operational management, assessment of new project applications and ongoing portfolio management
• Represent Cancer Research UK drug development activities both internally and externally and attend external meetings and conferences to promote the CDD.

What skills are we looking for?
• Current registration with the General Medical Council to practice medicine in the UK
• Membership of the Royal College of Physicians or equivalent
• Experience of working on Phase I and/or Phase II studies in oncology, gained either through working as an investigator/co-investigator on oncology trials or as a Medical Advisor/Monitor with direct responsibility for oncology trials
• Working knowledge of UK and EU clinical trial regulations
• Ability to understand and assimilate novel approaches to therapy and advise on medical aspects of complex studies.
• Ability to work on own initiative at all times.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Good communication skills in order to liaise effectively with CRUK staff and external collaborators and authorities specifically across a matrix structure
• Ability to maintain rigorous adherence to written procedures, guidelines and legal requirements
• Ability to solve problems within own remit and know when to intervene, and when to escalate problems to HMS
• Excellent attention to detail
• Good planning and organising skills
• Excellent written English
• Ability to influence and negotiate with others. Evidence of effective team working and accountability.

Our organisation values are designed to guide all that we do.
• Bold: Act with ambition, courage and determination
• Credible: Act with rigour and professionalism
• Human: Act to have a positive impact on people
• Together: Act inclusively and collaboratively

We're looking for people who can believe in and embody these organisation values and can use them to drive forward progress against our mission to beat cancer.
