Land/ Shift Surveyor – £500m Rail Project
Salary: £40k + pkg & Shift Allowance

The Shift Surveyor will work as part of the Surveying department providing engineering survey services to the Engineering and Construction departments. They will report to the Lead SCL Surveyor.
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Checking and/or setting up the horizontal and vertical control for use during construction under the direction of the Lead SCL Surveyor.
• Help maintain the control for the duration of the project, and establish new control as and when required.
• Establish a relationship with the site construction teams and provide advice and technical support on all survey and setting out matters.
• Install and observe control points for the construction of major structures.
• Carry out initial setting out of major structures, tunnels and regular as built checks during construction.
• Support shift engineer in their setting out duties and for SCL works support for... profile control.
• Establish monitoring schemes and set up the appropriate observation regime. Base reading should be taken by the shift surveyor.
• Carry out survey of In-tunnel monitoring, computations and graphical presentation of data.
• Ensure that all equipment used by their team is in calibration and checked according to the appropriate procedure.
• Supervise and take responsibility for survey teams.
• Ensure shift assistant surveyor is fulfilling his duties.
• Bring non-conformances to the attention of Senior Surveyors taking immediate corrective action whenever possible.
• Set up, test, calibrate and operate a variety of survey and positioning systems.
Personal Spec:
Required:
• The role will require the post holder to have excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal and to be able to report at all levels.
• The post holder will be educated to degree or higher level in a surveying, engineering, mining or construction discipline. A lower educational level, typically HNC or HND or a fully recorded vocational training to an equivalent level (Mining Qualifications Board; Mine Surveyors Certificate or similar) may be acceptable where a significant level of experience in engineering surveying role can be demonstrated.
• Appropriate CSCS card type and level.
• Have a minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience in a similar role within the construction or mining industries.
Desirable:
• A good working knowledge of relevant safety legislation.
• Be familiar with survey software, experience of Amberg TMS, Star
• net, MX and NRG would be an advantage.
• Membership of an appropriate Professional body.
