We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled psychologist to work in the Red Cell Pain Management and Psychology Service (RCPMPS) at St George's Hospital. The postholder will work within the RCPMPS, which offers inpatient and outpatient psychological support to those with mood difficulties associated with haemoglobinopathies, issues with adjustment, and treatment adherence. This work offers the opportunity to work creatively, and compassionately drawing on a number of psychological models, as well as consultation and MDT work. Since 2013, it also has provided an innovative pain management service for adults living with sickle cell disease (SCD) building up a significant reputation for excellence in the field. It offers individual and group work, alongside an experienced pain management physiotherapist and a pain consultant.
Main duties of the job

The postholder will work largely in... the psychology arm of the RCPMPS and alongside the rest of the team in a newly developed community multidisciplinary team (MDT) and service to support patients of adult age, families and carers affected by SCD across South London, covering the five boroughs of Wandsworth, Merton, Sutton, Kingston and Richmond. This new service forms part of a two-year pilot and the role will involve travel across the South London footprint. The postholder will support the development and delivery of workshops, outreach and patient participation projects, alongside MDT reflective practice and education sessions. With other RCPMPS team members, the postholder may also need to attend meetings relating to the delivery of the pilot, and together support reporting and target requirements.
About us

The postholder will also be professionally linked to the wider St George's Hospital Adult Haematology team, and would work collaboratively with an Assistant Psychologist and Social Prescribing Link Worker, and with the haematology doctors, community and hospital clinical nurse specialists and liaise at times with ward nursing staff and the apheresis team, who are very supportive of psychology and multi-disciplinary input. This wider team encourages creativity and independence, as well as a strong sense of working together as a team to support patients from diverse backgrounds.
Job responsibilities

The postholder would join a well-established and supportive clinical health and neuropsychology department at the trust, which provides regular CPD and peer supervision. We have well-established links with the St Georges University and are actively involved in promoting the work of psychology and pain management within haemoglobinopathies through research, presentations at conferences and teaching. This postholder will be supervised by the 8a clinical psychologist in the RCPMPS.

We are committed to equity and ensuring that the contributions of all members are respected and valued. Our service is recognised for being accessible to patients and staff and strives to be as representative of the local population as much as possible. We would particularly welcome applicants who can add to the diversity of the psychology team and who value working with diverse communities.

The post hours are up to 0.4 WTE (15 hours/week) and we are happy to discuss the working pattern however it would be very helpful for the post holder to work on Wednesdays, as this is the day the MDT and outpatient clinic take place.
