Job Descrption
Loughton Health Centre is pleased to be able to offer the opportunity for an experienced medical secretary to join their busy, existing team on a full-time basis. With the increasing use of technology in general practice, medical secretaries are playing an increasingly important role in managing patient information and ensuring that healthcare providers have access to the data they need to deliver high-quality care.
Main duties of the job
• Processing NHS referrals using the electronic referral system (ERS).
• Preparing private referral letters.
• Maintaining an accurate referrals database.
• Liaising with external agencies such as hospitals and community services, ensuring referrals are processed efficiently.
• Inputting data into the patients healthcare records as necessary.
• Answering incoming phone calls related to referrals, transferring calls or dealing with the callers request appropriately.
• Maintaining patient and staff confidentiality in accordance with data protection... legislation and information governance guidelines.
• Updating EMIS clinical system.

Person Specification
Experience
• Secretarial experience - audio- and touch-typing skills.
• Coding/summarising would be advantageous.
• Strong administrative experience and good organisation skills.
• Understanding of the need to maintain confidentiality and data security, at all times.
• Ability to multi-task and to work accurately under pressure.
• Ability to work as part of a team, as well as independently.
