GOSH is a national and international centre of excellence. Within International and Patient Care (I&PC), we provide specialist care and treatment to children from predominantly the Middle Eastern regions, as well as the UK.
We are seeking experienced Arabic Interpreters on a permanent contract to provide an Interpreting & Translation service in order to facilitate a therapeutic relationship between the patients and/or families and the healthcare providers based within I&PC.
The successful applicants must have a minimum of 3 years previous experience as an Interpreter/Translator, ideally in a healthcare setting. You must be a strong team player with proven commitment to providing a high-quality service. You must be able to communicate effectively in both Arabic and English and build credible working relationships with our patients, families and staff. Attention to detail is essential, as well as knowledge of Islamic... cultural/religious issues.
Main duties of the job
An exciting opportunity has arisen to work in the International & Private Care Directorate within the Interpreting and Translating team at the world famous Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children.
You will have excellent communication and people skills to work in a team of Arabic Interpreters working within this ever expanding department. Previous experience of working within a healthcare setting is desired in order to identify and help implement service improvements.
You will have excellent organisational and interpersonal skills together with the ability to plan your own workload as well as a strong level of team working abilities. A flexible and diplomatic approach will be required in order to manage conflicting priorities.
A good communicator, you will be happy working within a multicultural setting alongside a broad range of people, with different skills, and be able to demonstrate that you can act using your own initiative.

Person Specification
GCSE or equivalent in English language
Appropriate Arabic qualification
Interpreting qualification, e.g. diploma or certificate in public services interpreting or equivalent experience
Experience/Knowledge
Good knowledge of cultural/religious issues in relation to Arab and Muslim families
Experience in written English Arabic & Arabic English translation
Skills/Abilities
Good interpersonal skills
Good communication skills- verbal and written in English and Arabic
Ability to cope with stress/ be calm under pressure/ to demonstrate emotional resilience in emergency medical situations
Ability to prioritise/ manage time with support and direction
Ability to receive constructive advice and direction from managers
