About the Role:

The Mental Health – Adult Eating Disorder Program at London Health Sciences Centre -Riverview site is seeking a Nurse Practitioner to join our dynamic team. The Nurse Practitioner is a self-directed advanced practice nurse prepared at the graduate and post-graduate level, who demonstrates a high-level of autonomy working to scope, both independently and within a collaborative practice model. Using advanced assessment skills and a sound knowledge of clinical therapeutics, the NP demonstrates a comprehensive knowledge base in a mental health acute care setting and exhibits a high degree of clinical competence in caring for Adult Mental Health populations.

The NP in the Mental Health – Adult Eating Disorder Program will report to the Director of Adult Mental Health Outpatient Services and will work collaboratively with members of the Mental Health Eating Disorders Program. The NP will interact daily with the interdisciplinary team?to manage, direct and provide comprehensive care for a select patient population. The NP works with key stakeholders to provide advanced care that optimizes patient outcomes and enhances safety, effectiveness, and accessibility. The NP in this program will engage in scholarly activities and advance knowledge by providing clinical leadership, identify opportunities for improving patient care, advancing best practices, promoting professional education, and engaging in research. All duties and responsibilities of the NP conform to professional practice standards of the London Health Sciences Centre guidelines.

With a focus on service excellence and patient safety, principal responsibilities include:
• Clinical and Program Leadership: The NP will deliver care both as an autonomous healthcare provider and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary service for adult patients with eating disorders.
• The NP will work to full scope providing assessment, diagnosis, monitoring, ordering investigations and medications, and evaluation for patients with eating disorders.
• The NP will be responsible for leading and delivering care and improving access to care and decreasing wait times for this vulnerable population including providing consultation and communication with primary care providers.
• The NP will work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to provide access to comprehensive care – delivered both in person and virtually.
• The NP will Improve access to information/education for patients, family members and community partners through the development of educational strategies.
• Academic Leadership: The NP will participate in collaborative research and Quality Improvement (QI) initiatives such as: trialing evidence-based treatment modalities, implementation of measurement-based care; evaluating the delivery of care in the program.
• The NP will attend relevant conferences and professional meetings.
• Collaborate effectively and support team members to ensure comprehensive and seamless continuity of care coverage during absences.
• Maintain accurate and detailed medical records in accordance with institutional guidelines and the College of Nurses of Ontario.
• Engage key stakeholders to provide advanced care that optimizes patient outcomes and enhances safety, effectiveness, and accessibility.
• Engage in scholarly activities and advance knowledge by providing clinical leadership, identify opportunities for improving patient care, advancing best practices, promoting professional education, and engaging in research

• Rate of Pay: $58.98 - $71.85 per hour

As the ideal candidate, you have:
• Successful completion of a Master’s Degree in Nursing
• Current registration in the extended class in any of the following specialties: Adult or Primary Care and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
• Minimum of 2 years recent related experience with a mental health population in an acute care setting
• Current member of the Nurse Practitioner's Association of Ontario (NPAO) or Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO)
• Mandatory Current Professional Liability Protection
• Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers course: BLS-HCP (C)
• Demonstrated experience and leadership in clinical practice, education, program development and research
• Expertise in functioning in an inter-disciplinary health care environment
• Recent experience collaborating with external agencies and community partners preferred
• Ability to establish effective interpersonal relationships with colleagues and therapeutic relationships with patients and families
• Expertise in critical thinking, clinical problem solving, negotiation and conflict resolution
• Effective organizational, conceptual and leadership skills
• Ability to provide project management skills to promote evidence-based strategies and initiatives for the Adult Eating Disorders Program and ability to work in partnership with relevant LHSC staff and physicians
• Experience in/or understanding research, program development and evaluation
• Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal relations and communication skills, both oral and written
• Demonstrated excellence as a role model for clinical leadership
• Demonstrated experience with clinical teaching in an academic environment
• Advanced presentation skills including the application of adult learning principles, change theory and systems theory in a clinical environment
• Demonstrated excellence in clinical practice
• Self-directed and function independently
• Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
• Demonstrated skill in insight, self-awareness and self-management consistent with high emotional intelligence
• Demonstrated ability to express oneself assertively and effectively in a non-judgmental and respectful manner
• Demonstrated experience and leadership in education and research
• Ability to function as an independent practitioner and a collaborative team member
• Eligible for an Adjunct appointment to an academic institution
• Proven ability to act empathically, while establishing and maintaining productive relationships
• Ability to be flexible and adapt positively to constantly changing clinical situations and multiple demands
• Computer proficiency with Internet, Microsoft Office 365 including Outlook, Automated Clinical Systems and Virtual meeting platforms
• Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety
• Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC’s vision, purpose and values
• Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
