Medical Laboratory Technologist 2

The Role:
To perform testing and provide accurate and timely reporting of clinical and environmental laboratory tests as part of a team of laboratory professionals, within quality policies and technical procedures.
To provide technical assistance to Operational Leads/Managers in carrying out testing, troubleshooting and/or special projects. To provide group leadership to a team of technical and non- technical staff.
Key Responsibilities-
• Conducts standardized medical/clinical tests and procedures for the isolation, quantification, identification, molecular testing and antimicrobial susceptibility testing of clinically significant bacteria, fungi, parasites, viruses and associated antibodies.
• Provides oversight of day to day activities to a team of technical and non-technical staff including scheduling work rotations.
•... Performs advanced trouble shooting beyond daily maintenance (e.g. method failures, troubleshooting tests or instrument failures).
• Assists operational lead with training and competency assessment of technical and non-technical staff
• Ensures adherence to all safety guidelines and regulatory requirement.
• Reports and relays results to health care providers within acceptable turnaround time (TAT) as published by PHOL.
• Authorizes the release of laboratory test results and discusses test results with clients within the restriction of College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO) regulations.
• Maintains privacy and confidentiality as outlined by PHO corporate policies.
• Carries out established quality assurance and control procedures including proficiency testing to ensure quality outcomes.
• Performs review of daily QC materials and take appropriate actions to resolve any discrepancies in QC material that falls outside the acceptable ranges.
• Leads projects and project teams including the testing and validation of new equipment, provision of training.
• Provides input to the development of new procedures and protocols and documents the final procedures and protocols.
• Participates in annual review of procedures and protocols.
• Participates in preparation and response to internal and external audits.
• Participates in preparation and response to corrective and preventive actions.
• Performs other duties or projects as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills-
• Knowledge of medical laboratory techniques/procedures and ability to operate laboratory equipment to conduct standardized medical/clinical tests and procedures and provide technical guidance to technical and non-technical staff.
• Knowledge of and ability to apply laboratory safety practices to ensure all safety guidelines and requirements are met.
• Knowledge of Institute Quality Management in Healthcare (IQMH) requirements.
• Good working knowledge of Canadian Association of Accredited Laboratories (CALA) program and the ability to take the lead in CALA accreditations and Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MOECP) inspections.
• Knowledge of PHOL Code of Conduct.
• Knowledge of computer software applications such as spreadsheet, word processing and presentations and skills to work with automated, computer driven equipment.
• Strong knowledge of the PHOL Quality Management System, Quality Assurance practices including but not limited to writing and revision of Standard Operating Procedures, managing non-conformances and Inventory management
• Experience in Request for Proposals would be an asset.
Education and Experience-
• Certification in good standing with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO) is required.
• Four to six years’ experience in their field of expertise.
Attributes and Competencies-
• Oral communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with laboratory staff and with health care providers to relay laboratory test results.
• Interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with internal and external clients.
• Oral communication and presentation skills to provide training to technical and non- technical staff.
• Written communication skills to write standard operating procedures to relay technical information to users.
Duration: Permanent
Hours of Work: Full time, 36.25 hours per week

Salary :$39.64 - $47.92
