The Paediatric Inpatient Clinical Teaching Unit (CTU) and the Child Protection (CP) Program are seeking a Full-time Nurse Practitioner for this new and exciting hybrid ( 50/50) role and to join our growing team at the Children’s Hospital, London Health Sciences Centre. Children’s Hospital is a major regional referral centre committed to multidisciplinary patient and family-centred care. Serving a population of over 1.5 million in both Southwestern Ontario and areas to the North, it specializes in paediatric inpatient and outpatient services to children from birth through age 18. Internationally renowned for medical research it also serves as a teaching hospital for physicians, nurses and other health care partners.
The Nurse Practitioner is a self-directed advanced practice nurse prepared at the graduate and post-graduate level, who demonstrates a high level of autonomy working to... scope, both independently and within a collaborative practice model. Using advanced assessment skills and a sound knowledge of clinical therapeutics, the NP demonstrates a comprehensive knowledge base in paediatrics and exhibits a high degree of clinical competence in caring for acutely ill children and those requiring child protection assessments.
The NP in the CTU/CP Programs will report to the Director of Childrens Hospital Inpatient and Ambulatory programs and will work collaboratively with members of the Paediatric Hospital Medicine and Child Protection programs. The NP will interact daily with the interdisciplinary team?to manage, direct and provide comprehensive care for a select patient population. The NP works with key stakeholders to provide advanced care that optimizes patient outcomes and enhances safety, effectiveness and accessibility. The NP in this program will engage in scholarly activities and advance knowledge by providing clinical leadership, identify opportunities for improving patient care, advancing best practices, promoting professional education and engaging in research.
With a focus on service excellence and patient safety, principal responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Clinical and Program Leadership: The NP will deliver care in a collaborative MD/NP model where the MD is the MRP, working both as an autonomous healthcare provider and collaboratively within both the interdisciplinary CTU and CP programs.
• Work to full scope including performing advanced health assessments, diagnosing, monitoring, ordering investigations and medications, evaluating outcomes and consulting specialist for children in these settings.
• Ensure clear communication pathways with Collaborating physicians in balancing this hybrid role.
• Be responsible for delivering evidence-based care, improving access to care; decreasing wait times, facilitating access and flow, and earlier discharge for these populations including providing initial consultations to ensure quality and safe care.
• Provide consultation to local and outlying community health care providers.
• Collaborate closely with interprofessional colleagues, and liaise with community agencies, Children’s Aid Society and various police services.
• Educational Leadership: The NP will improve access to information/education for parents and caregivers, staff, and community health care providers and community partners through the development of educational strategies and following of and establishment of guidelines.
• Plan and participate in learning opportunities for learners within the CTU/CP programs and participate in hospital wide in-services/education to share current evidence-based practices.
• Academic Leadership: The NP will participate in collaborative research and Quality Improvement (QI) initiatives including program development, promotion of family well- being; evaluating the delivery of care to improve access to care; evaluation research and reporting on metrics for the purpose of program evaluation.
• Collaborate with local and regional partners/stakeholders to develop, implement and evaluate best practices, standards of care and/or protocols that result in the improvement to patient care, practice and/or systems.
• Attend relevant conferences and professional meetings.

Regular Full-Time
Rate of Pay: $58.98 - $71.85 per hour
Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week

Qualifications
• Successful completion of a Master’s Degree in Nursing
• Current registration in the extended class in any of the following specialties: Paediatrics or Primary Health Care and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
• Minimum of 5 recent related experience with acute care paediatrics. Specialization with Child protection issues will be an asset
• Current member of the Nurse Practitioner's Association of Ontario (NPAO) or Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO)
• Mandatory Current Professional Liability Protection
• Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers course: BLS-HCP (C)
• Demonstrated experience and leadership in clinical practice, education, and program development; experience in research an asset
• Expertise in functioning in an inter-disciplinary health care environment
• Expertise in critical thinking, clinical problem solving, negotiation and conflict resolution
• Advanced organizational skills; Must be able to manage complex workloads and prioritize patient care between 2 busy programs
• Demonstrated ability to establish trusting relationships and communicate effectively with a diverse group of professionals in complex situations
• Excellent communication skills and ability to de-escalate highly charged situations
• Ability to establish effective interpersonal relationships with colleagues and therapeutic relationships with patients and families
• Demonstrated understanding of DEI
• Effective organizational, conceptual and leadership skills
• Ability to provide project management?skills to promote?evidence-based strategies and initiatives and ability to work in partnership with relevant LHSC staff and physicians?
• Experience in/or understanding research, program development and evaluation

• Eligible for an Adjunct appointment to an academic institution
• Proven ability to act empathically, while establishing and maintaining productive relationships

• Computer proficiency with Internet, Microsoft Office 365 including Outlook, Automated Clinical Systems and Virtual meeting platforms

Immunization Requirements:
Before beginning employment at LHSC, all new hires will be required to:
