Job Description:
With direction from the Senior Coordinator, and in compliance with existing legislation and PHSS policies and procedures, is responsible for: meeting the daily health care needs and basic care needs of individuals living in group home settings; participating as a member of an interdisciplinary team; providing mentoring, monitoring and training to staff; assisting the medical team lead identify training needs for the residents and staff; and, where identified, assisting directly in supporting individuals with higher needs or who are experiencing acute needs.
Qualifications:
• Must be licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in Ontario and in good standing as a Registered Nurse with The College of Nurses of Ontario.
• Must be able to give intramuscular injections.
• Must have demonstrated leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Experience in meeting the needs of individuals with complex multiple disabilities.
• Experience and willingness to work... with unregulated healthcare providers in a multidisciplinary environment.
• Experience and ability to provide basic training on managing high blood pressure, pneumonia, and Diabetes.
• Training in controlled acts and irrigation of the ears.
• Good interpersonal skills, mature judgment, responsible attitude, sensitivity to the needs of the developmentally challenged, willingness to keep updated on new information and apply this knowledge to care provided.
• Must be computer literate with desktop computers.
• Valid Class G driver’s license.
• Clean police record.
Other Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written form with all levels of staff, parents, agents of the organization, and the general public.
• Skills and knowledge in the use of technical devices such as oxygen concentrators, stomas, supra pubic catheters, ventilators, suction machines, internal feeding tubes/pumps, and tracheostomy care and suction pumps.
• Knowledge of the differences between teaching, delegating, assigning, and supervising.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Comfortable teaching new employees hands-on skills such as intermittent urinary catheterization, blood glucose monitoring, and administration of insulin, etc.
• Ability to determine when information, decisions, or situations need to be referred to the Senior Coordinator, Operations and Standards Manager, or Physician.
• Physical assessment skills
