Specialist Pharmacist - Clinical Innovation and Quality Improvement at Kings College Hospital N H S Foundation Trust

Job Descrption
The Clinical Pharmacy Service at King’s is highly respected across the Trust and our staff work closely with multi-disciplinary teams to advance patient care. We are patient-centred, research-oriented, progressive and innovative, and work alongside senior managers and clinicians to provide comprehensive directorate services.

The successful candidate will be part of the Pharmacy Clinical Services team, who will take a lead on negotiating and agreeing clinical guidelines and prescribing practice for the trust and more widely across Kings Health Partners.

Key activities of the post holder will include:

Provide a clinical commitment

To standardise clinical practice and drive quality improvement work

Deliver training to pharmacy staff in relation to approved clinical pharmacy policies and procedures

To lead and participate in clinical audit and quality improvement work for the pharmacy clinical service.

To act as a professional secretary for the General Medication Workflow... Optimisation group

To work closely with the Depute Chief Pharmacist for Clinical Services

Deputise for the Principal Pharmacist, Clinical Services

The post will be provided with many opportunities for personal and professional development. The successful applicant will need to demonstrate initiative, innovation and effective teamwork within a busy environment. Previous experience as a clinical pharmacist, and directorate pharmacy, as well as operational experience and excellent interpersonal skills are essential for the role. Candidates should have successfully completed the Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy Practice (or equivalent). An independent prescribing qualification and experience of staff management are advantageous.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Leadership

To deputise for the Principal Pharmacist for Clinical Services as necessary.

To standardise clinical practice and drive quality improvement work across the clinical service

Deliver training to pharmacy staff in relation to approved clinical pharmacy policies and procedures

To lead and participate in clinical audit and quality improvement work for the pharmacy clinical service.

To propose and implement policies and procedures designed to improve the pharmacy service to patients in the Trust in conjunction with the Principal Pharmacist in line with national and international consensus guidelines.

To lead and comment on policy and service changes and plans within the clinical pharmacy service and to contribute to, and participate in, pharmacy service developments in line with departmental and Trust policy

To develop, implement, monitor and evaluate evidence-based prescribing guidelines and protocols for use both Trust wide and within Acute Speciality Medicine.

To ensure services provided are in line with local and national policies, guidelines and frameworks

To contribute and adhere to clinical pharmacy service standards.

To act as a professional secretary for the General Medication Workflow Optimisation group

Clinical Responsibilities

To act as a specialist practitioner within the field and as an expert pharmacist in the Care Group.

To promote and deliver pharmaceutical care for Care Group patients and more generally for all

patients.

To provide highly specialised and complex evidence-based clinical advice and information using

expert knowledge and experience to pharmacy, nursing, medical and other healthcare professionals

on the care and treatment of patients, inside and outside of the Trust.

To participate in and contribute to the clinical/ward pharmacy service.

To actively participate in consultant ward rounds as appropriate.

To participate in outpatient clinics, and assist in the further development of the pharmacist’s role in

this area.

To undertake patient medication review sessions and patient reviews in outpatient clinics as necessary.
