The Smart Energy Code (SEC), the “rulebook” for smart meters, underpins the smart meter rollout programme in Great Britain and is opening up opportunities for the future direction of the market. Gemserv has been providing the Smart Energy Code Administration and Secretariat (SECAS) service on behalf of the energy industry since 2013.
It’s a complex, challenging, and ground-breaking sector and would suit someone who wants to make a real difference in the transition to Net Zero. We are looking for a Smart Energy Code Engagement Consultant who can help our customers navigate their way through the requirements so that they can provide smart meters and smart energy services to their consumers. The successful candidate will have good knowledge of smart metering arrangements and excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
The Role
As the Smart Energy Code Engagement Consultant, you will work in the dedicated Engagement team, which is responsible for engaging with and supporting energy suppliers and other stakeholders through their Smart Energy Code (SEC) journey.
You will be responsible for providing guidance spanning the full lifecycle; from helping organisations to understand what it means to be a Party to the SEC and assisting them in connecting their organisation to the smart metering systems to supporting them through ongoing compliance processes, using the website, and suggesting changes to the Code.
The Smart Energy Code Engagement Consultant will need to work with the wider SECAS team and third parties, such as the smart metering system provider (the Data Communications Company), Ofgem, and the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, to understand and manage their interactions with the team.
This will enable you to build invaluable knowledge of smart metering systems, regulation, and processes, in order to help you provide tailored support to energy suppliers and other SEC Parties. It will also allow you to develop valuable relationships with key stakeholders.
Through your engagement with SEC Parties, you will be able to better understand their needs and challenges, from which you will be able to shape the service offering provided. You will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies to improve customer engagement and satisfaction.
The role will involve a mixture of providing remote and in-person support. You will respond to helpdesk enquiry emails and calls as well as prepare for and host in-person events, webinars, and engagement calls with SEC Parties on topics of interest. An aspect of the role will be to consult with SEC Parties on a variety of issues, including the impact of certain changes or events, to provide this feedback to key stakeholders.
Given the complexity of the industry, an important skill will be your ability to understand and explain technical or complex information in a straightforward way to non-technical stakeholders. The role also requires strong relationship management and problem-solving skills, as well as flexibility to manage changing and competing priorities, and a keen eye for detail.
We have a continuous improvement culture within the team, and through the insight you share from your interactions with SEC Parties and key stakeholders, there is plenty of scope to identify and deliver improvements to the way that we deliver our customer-facing services.
The successful candidate will have an awareness of the GB smart metering arrangements. We are therefore looking for someone who has worked within the smart metering sector or in energy codes.
