This role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), including The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions.

Role:

This Head of Programme for Fusion Futures Industry Capability will be accountable for a 4 year £180M programme which will build fusion competencies and capacity within UK industry through commissioning engineering projects and procurements.The programme will play an important role in developing a UK fusion supply chain and in developing the capacity to support the realisation of future fusion powerplants. The role will involve significant commercial interaction with UK companies in addition to working with technology experts across a broad range of fusion related disciplines.The role will be responsible for maximising the impact of the programme against agreed objectives, for driving industrial engagement and for identifying opportunities to build UK leadership in fusion technologies. The role will report to the Programme SRO.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the day to day running and ongoing management of the programme on behalf of the SRO to ensure that desired programme objectives are delivered and that the expected benefits are realised.
  • Provide clear leadership to the Project Managers; resolve obstacles to strategy delivery within the programme and lead the identification and employment of solutions to overcome them. Manage the programme budget, including risk allowance and management reserves.
  • Lead on developing the programme strategy and implementing programme delivery to all relevant stakeholders (business change managers, BEIS, Exco etc). Act as the government liaison, industry networking and public facing roles as required by the CFO and CEO.
  • Lead on preparation for OCG reviews and action their recommendations.
  • Ensure the program adheres to UKAEA's Quality Assurance standards, lead prioritisation, and value engineering efforts as needed to maintain budget and align with strategic goals.

Qualifications

Essential Requirements:

  • Excellent leadership, communication, influencing, and collaboration skills MSP® Foundation, Practitioner or Advanced Practitioner (or an equivalent programme management certification).
  • Strong commercial awareness with the ability to make sound economic decisions that maximise programme value.
  • Extensive experience managing commercial contracts and procurements.  
  • Proven ability to handle ambiguity, uncertainty and high levels of complexity in project delivery.
  • Substantial experience in working with a diverse range of senior stakeholders and external partners, ideally with an element of public funding.
