Job Description

Salary: £38,620.

This role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) including The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions.

The Role

The Fusion Technology (FT) Division combines a suite of unique testing facilities and capabilities for advanced engineering and world-leading research for international and UK fusion programmes. 

Special Techniques Group (STG) is a technical facility within FT that performs commercial production to strict timescales, quality and budget, new product development work and grant funded research focused on specialist joining and bonding techniques such as low temperature diffusion bonding and vacuum brazing, for internal and external customers.

As Production Team Leader, you will be responsible for supporting the delivery of innovative solutions through effective people management and technical leadership, ensuring the work required to realise the short-to-medium term aims of STG is well defined, communicated, designed, and delivered to meet the challenging specifications required for fusion and related applications, supporting production output and production quality as required.

Please note, full on-site presence is required for this role. 

Additional Responsibilities

  • Effective and timely management of staff, including, but not limited to: setting resource allocation and recruitment requirements, knowledge transfer, welfare, setting measurable objectives and performance management, absence management, professional development, and coaching. 
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to appropriately scope work, understand end-user requirements, develop, and deliver technical tasks to agreed expectations (time and budget) – whether independently and/or through the team. 
  • Build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders to understand and exploit commercial or other opportunities, defining and supporting short-to-medium term projects - across FT and UKAEA, academic collaborators and industrial users. 
  • Create and/or review designs, processes, reports, and documentation.  
  • Solve problems and present proposals / findings through appropriate meetings and forums. 
  • Contribute to improving working practices, methods, and quality standards within the team and across the organisation. 
  • Increase departmental efficiency and compliance with business and technical practices, through the provision of technical advice, guidance, and relevant training.  
  • Work with external collaborators e.g. universities, research establishments, and industry to complement UKAEA's internal capability, access additional expert knowledge, and facilitate new project proposals. 
  • Escalating issues and highlighting areas of risk to relevant stakeholders. 

 

Qualifications

Essential Requirements

  • Relevant qualification e.g. HND / higher level apprenticeship or equivalent in STEM related discipline. 
  • Leadership and hands-on experience in an industrial manufacturing environment. 
  • Experience of line management and coaching of technical staff. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills - Ability to communicate effectively both to technical and non-technical audience. 
  • Ability to schedule, organise and prioritise workload - work autonomously with minimum supervision. 
  • Ability to use initiative to resolve queries or issues and make improvements. 
  • Good IT literacy and competency in utilising software such as SharePoint and MS Office.
