Job Description

Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to make a difference? Join our team and contribute to the future of fusion energy.

We are looking for an experienced Radiation Protection Adviser to support the advice and guidance provided by other health physics practitioners i.e. health physics manager and health physics technicians to ensure it is consistent with the requirements of of IRR17, COSHH and the EA Permits.

You will be a part of the larger HP Team and as such you will also be expected to provide advice and guidance to a range of personnel working on other programmes. In addition, you will participate in radiological document reviews and any improvements, as directed by the HP Group Manager.

To be successful in this role you will have a thorough knowledge of the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017 (IRR17), Environmental Permitting Regulations (EPR16) and an awareness of other relevant regulations.

What will you be responsible for?

  • The implementation of requirements as to controlled and supervised areas.

  • The prior examination of plans for installations and the acceptance into service of new or modified sources of ionising radiation in relation to any engineering controls, design features and warning devices provided to restrict exposure to ionising radiation.

  • The regular calibration of equipment provided for monitoring levels of ionising radiation and regular checking that such equipment is serviceable and correctly used.

  • The periodic examination and testing of engineering controls, design features, safety features and warning devices and regular checking of systems of work provided to restrict exposure to ionising radiation.

  • The conduct of the various investigations required by IRR17 and the Company.

  • The drawing up of contingency plans

  • Providing advice on the safety issues associated with working with beryllium.

Please note: You will be working in Radiological and Beryllium designated areas and this involves Tritium research, Nuclear/Radiological Materials

Qualifications

Essential Requirements:

  • Valid Radiation Protection Adviser Certificate
  • Relevant Degree/HNC or a significant number of years’ experience in radiation protection.
  • Radiation protection professional qualification e.g. HPA / RPD Foundation Course in Radiation
  • Protection or equivalent.
  • Member of the Society for Radiological Protection (SRP)
