This role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), including The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions. 

The Role

Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to make a difference? Join our team and contribute to the future of fusion energy. As a Regulatory Development Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in providing specialist technical safety and environmental input and management of multiple activities involved in the development of the national and international regulatory framework for fusion power. This will involve co-ordinating expert input from within UKAEA and from external specialist service providers to deliver these activities. If you are enthusiastic for developing new ways of working that reflect the challenges of fusion and enjoy working cooperatively to reach solutions, we would like to hear from you. 

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Contribute safety expertise to the development of national and international regulatory frameworks for the fusion industry.
  • Engage with fusion organizations and regulatory bodies, nationally and internationally, to promote the harmonization of fusion regulatory framework. 
  • Provide input to International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) activities on fusion safety , and potentially contribute to new safety standards for fusion.
  • Represent the UK in national and international fusion working groups, actively participating in the development of safety standards and guidance.
  • Manage and contribute technical input to the development of regulatory documentation, offering guidance for safety, security, and environmental cases for fusion.

Qualifications

Essential Requirements:

  • Advanced degree in Science or Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience in producing safety or environmental  cases and assessing radiological safety, environmental or waste hazards.
  • Involvement in developing safety or environmental  case standards, procedures, and guidance.
  • Strong working knowledge of nuclear, radiological or high hazard health and safety, including regulatory framework, legislation, and guidance.
  • Participation in national and/or international industry workgroups on safety, security, or environmental case development processes. 
  • Ability to interpret technical information for a non-safety specialist audience, in written reports and in presentations,
