This role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) including The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions.

The salary for this position is £52,293

The Role

As C&I Engineer you will provide and apply key technical skills related to Control and Instrumentation systems to enable the successful delivery of projects and programmes across UKAEA. You'll proactively participate in specification, design, development, implementation, commissioning and maintenance of Electrical, Control & Instrumentation systems for UKAEA projects and programmes.   

In this post you will lead and take full ownership for large work packages associated with potentially hazardous equipment, complex installation / modification tasks, and technical studies including preparation of documentation. You will take full responsibility for ensuring plant faults are quickly addressed and that proposed solutions are technically robust. You'll also supervise staff and contractors in the supply, installation and commissioning of Control & Instrumentation systems.

 

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Lead medium scale projects on fusion systems, from concept through to detailed design on enhancement programs for UKAEA’s facilities as well as for future fusion devices.
  • Take the technical lead for several control and safety systems. This will involve installation, software development, testing, commissioning, maintenance, repair, development or de-commissioning of these systems as required.
  • Produce control systems documentation including system architecture, control philosophies and control system software specifications.
  • Lead software development in Siemens TIA S7, Siemens PCS7, LabVIEW, ABB 800Xa function designer, Python, C++ or similar programming languages as needed.
  • Assessing and capturing requirements, developing designs, HAZOP assessments, chairing design reviews and implementing the designs for new C&I systems at UKAEA.

Qualifications

  • A degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or equivalent, and relevant professional experience in an engineering role. Or HND in Electrical/Electronic discipline, or equivalent qualification level, with a greater breadth and depth of experience/knowledge.
  • Good working knowledge of PLC and SCADA systems
  • Good understanding of EC&I documents (SLDs, P&IDs, C&Es, schematics etc.)
  • Good knowledge of safe working practices and procedures, with experience of preparing safety documentation (i.e. risk assessments, method statements, permits, isolations etc).
  • Must demonstrate a high level of experience in design, installation and testing of Control and Instrumentation software and hardware systems.
