Job Description

Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to make a difference? Join our team and contribute to the future of fusion energy. As a Graduate Development Engineer, you will play a pivotal role

Within the Tritium Fuel Cycle Division where you will complete a core suite of tasks and work activities designed to develop professional skills. Elements of this programme are flexible and may also include placements within other parts of the UKAEA Organisation, these can be tailored to personal development needs and to those of a specific job role.

In addition to delivering high-impact research and development programmes, the Tritium Fuel Cycle division is also responsible for designing, delivering and operating cutting-edge tritium life cycle facilities. Furthermore, the division seeks to develop productive collaborations and grow a community of experts through the sharing and assimilating of knowledge.

UKAEA’s two-year graduate scheme is split by 80% of your time developing both your general work-related skills and professional qualifications and 20% of your working time dedicated to graduate training and development.  Within the 20% training and development, there is a core suite of activities designed to develop your professional and business skills. Elements of this programme are flexible and can be tailored to your personal development needs and to those of your specific job role. 

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to our research programmes and projects through the study, design, implementation and operation of tritium technology and experimental apparatus.
  • Enable the safe construction, operation and maintenance of engineering systems through effective communication, identifying and suggesting improvements where appropriate.
  • Work in collaboration with research scientists to procure and develop experimental equipment, execute experiments and analyse results.
  • Generate technical reports and contribute to scientific papers, presenting findings both internally to peers and externally at conferences.

The role holder may be required to train and register as a Beryllium and classified radiation worker. All necessary training for this will be provided by the United Kingdom Energy Authority.

Some programmes may require infrequent shift-work support and participation.

Qualifications

Essential Requirements:

  • Bachelors or Masters degree or equivalent qualification in engineering discipline, such as Chemical, Mechanical or Nuclear Engineering
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Working towards recognition as an Incorporated/Chartered Engineer or Scientist status.

To be considered you will need to have successfully completed your degree within the past 2 years at a UK university, and will possess a relevant degree from within the specialisms listed.

You will need to be self motivated, demonstrate the ability to work well with others, and have an interest in the development of a cleaner energy. Additionally, you will be passionate about self-development and you should have a proactive approach to your work with an enthusiasm to achieving your full potential.
