This role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), including The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions.

The Role

Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to make a difference? Join our team and contribute to the future of fusion energy. As a Digital Support Technician Apprentice, you will play a pivotal role within the computing division. This role plays apart in managing IT services and and infrastructure at UKAEA sites. 

You will be encouraged to work in a variety of environments, learning new skills with support from a wealth of experienced Engineers, Analysts, Technicians and Specialists, whilst working under the supervision of the IT Support Lead. You will undertake a variety of tasks, including but not limited to:

• Providing 1st line support on both hardware and software to users across all sites.
• Promote effective use of digital office technologies, productivity software, digital communications, including collaborative technologies, and digital information systems.
• Assist the System Specialist base adapt to and exploit changes in technology to meet objectives and maximise efficiency. 
• Provide end-user application support, Determine the root cause of technical issues to identify the potential solutions
• Collaborate with stakeholders to manage expectations, escalating as appropriate
• Apply relevant policies and legislation appropriate to their role, and follow appropriate escalation procedures

This apprenticeship can help you find the following career paths:

• A Digital Applications Technician (DAT) - helps the organisation and its internal users to maximise the use of digital technologies. 
• A Digital Service Technician (DST) - supports external customers and clients through a wide variety of digital channels. A DST helps collaborators access and receive services and provides coaching and support to them in their use of the digital systems.

Additional Responsibilities:

• Complete national academic qualification as defined by the apprenticeship training standard; Digital support technician / Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education
• Attend designated training provider, develop and attain a good knowledge of procurement skills.
• Represent the UKAEA Organisation and attend external outreach and careers events.

Qualifications

Essential Requirements:

• 5 GCSEs grade 9-4 (A*-C), including Maths and English (or BSL for those whose primary language is BSL)
• Self-motivated and unafraid to use their initiative.
• IT literate and fluent in MS Office
