As a Nuclear Health Physics Monitor Apprentice, you will play a pivotal role in the Health Physics Group who provide routine advisory and monitoring services to site projects to assist in compliance with Health and Safety laws.
Health Physics Technicians are required to maintain and reliably deliver a routine radiological protection and occupational hygiene service and to provide specialised monitoring support for a wide range of radiological and workplace hazards.
Health Physics Technicians are required to provide operational Health Physics advice as requested to engineers and plant technicians for radiological and beryllium related tasks at Culham (JET/MRF/MDF & MAST-U projects).
You will work alongside suitably qualified and experienced Health Physics Technicians (HPT) undertaking their duties. Responsibility for assessing the level of learning, understanding and application lies with the Health Physics Supervisor, their onsite assessor (if applicable) and their Direct Line Manager.
As time progresses, you will be authorised to undertake routine, low risk tasks with minimal supervision, but oversight of their work will be completed by either the Health Physics Supervisor or their Direct Line Manager.
The Health Physics Apprentice Training Plan HP/TP/001 details the standards and expectations of UKAEA from its apprentices, but also the standards and expectations that the apprentice can expect from UKAEA.
