This role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), including The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions.

The Role

Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to make a difference? Join our team and contribute to the future of fusion energy. As a Graduate Software Engineer, you will play a pivotal role within the Data Solutions Unit collaborates with staff across the organisation on software projects and promotes improvements in software practices through advice, training and resources.

This role involves contributing to a wide variety of software development projects under the supervision of more experienced members of the team. 

Projects and activities will be structured to build up the experience and knowledge needed while considering organisational needs and the individual’s career. 

UKAEA’s two-year graduate scheme is split by 80% of your time developing both your general work-related skills and professional qualifications and 20% of your working time dedicated to graduate training and development.  Within the 20% training and development, there is a core suite of activities designed to develop your professional and business skills. Elements of this programme are flexible and can be tailored to your personal development needs and to those of your specific job role. 

 

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Develop and improve software which enables business processes
  • Work with business process owners to understand their software needs and clarify requirements.
  • Provide help and support to users of the group’s systems.
  • Research and evaluate the applicability of new technologies for the team.
  • Organise own time to deliver tasks and maintain communication about progress.
  • Contribute to improving software development practices and quality standards within the team and across the organisation.
  • Consider security aspects of new and existing applications and systems

Qualifications

Essential Requirements:

  • Degree in relevant subject such as computer science, maths, physics, engineering or similar.
  • Experience of developing working, understandable software in more than one programming language (ideally including both interpreted and compiled languages)

To be considered you will need to have successfully completed your degree within the past 2 years at a UK university, and will possess a relevant degree from within the specialisms listed.

You will need to be self motivated, demonstrate the ability to work well with others, and have an interest in the development of a cleaner energy. Additionally, you will be passionate about self-development and you should have a proactive approach to your work with an enthusiasm to achieving your full potential.
