This role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), including The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions.

The Role

Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to make a difference? Join our team and contribute to the future of fusion energy. As Laboratory Technician Apprentice, you will play a pivotal role in the Tritium Fuel Cycle Division (previously known as H3AT), where you will work under direction of the Laboratory Coordinator to deliver and operate inactive scientific experiments in collaboration with H3AT research engineers and scientists, managing analytical data, recording and communicating results.

You will learn:

• how to maintain laboratory equipment under the instruction of more senior laboratory technicians so that it is available to ensure maximum utilisation and organisational benefit, whilst maintaining safety.
• the Operation Instructions to operate experiments within the laboratory spaces under supervision, and escalate foreseen risks/issues to the supervisor/Laboratory Co-ordinator.
• how to assist with the installation of experimental rigs within the laboratory spaces under supervision.

This role involves supporting the improvement of documentation and carrying out administrative tasks as requested.

Additional Responsibilities:

• Complete national academic qualification as defined by the apprenticeship training standard; Laboratory technician / Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education
• Attend designated training provider, develop and attain a good knowledge of engineering skills.
• Represent the UKAEA Organisation and attend external outreach and careers events.

Qualifications

Essential Requirements:

• 5 GCSES A*-C (9-4) including Maths and English
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Demonstrate an interest and aptitude for chosen area of work.
