**This is a full-time Fall/Winter (September 2024-March 2025) Co-op onsite in San Diego, CA for currently enrolled students**

This position will work in either our Aerospace or Sector Incubator and Accelerator (SIA) group. More about these sectors and their work:

Quartus is a key contributor to aerospace advancements, specializing in engineering simulation and custom hardware. We’ve played a vital role in a diverse range of free space, launch and spacecraft projects including the NASA James Webb Space Telescope project for 17 years, covering design, analysis, and testing. Quartus is actively involved in leading in-space servicing, assembly, and manufacturing (ISAM) systems. Our expertise spans aircraft structural design, analysis, and testing, including support for FAA certifications. Quartus excels in commercial and defense aircraft applications, as well as custom optical systems like laser communications terminals and lidar payloads with both aerial and space applications.

The Sector Incubator and Accelerator (SIA) group was established to leverage our advanced engineering expertise to create or mature product designs and develop custom engineered solutions for manufacturing that integrate seamlessly into our client’s existing processes.  SIA supports innovative clients in Semiconductor, Medical, Consumer and other commercial markets with a broad range of engineering and manufacturing services provided by our multi-disciplined engineering team.

 

What will you do?

We are looking for Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Structural Engineering students interested in working in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environment and who are excited about assisting on a variety of projects to join our growing team. Some examples of projects students have worked on in the past include design, analysis, software & control systems development, prototype development and/or testing of satellites, aircraft structures, launch vehicles, composite UAVs, cell phones, telescopes, and opto-mechanical laser and camera assemblies.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assist in Project Development
    • Work alongside engineers to contribute to the advancement of projects, including conducting research and gathering data
  • Design and Analysis
    • Participate in the design process by creating drawings, models, or simulations. Assist in analyzing designs
  • Prototype Development
    • Help in hands on assembly and building prototypes of designs
  • Testing and Evaluation
    • Support in conducting tests to evaluate performance and identify areas for improvement
  • Documentation
    • Assist in documenting project progress, including creating reports, drawings, and specifications. This may also involve maintaining records of test results and design changes
  • Collaboration
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineers from different disciplines, as well as project managers and other stakeholders
  • Problem Solving
    • Work on troubleshooting and solving engineering problems as they arise

Location

Position is based on site in San Diego, CA.

 

What are we looking for?

Quartus is looking for aspiring individuals who want to make a difference in the world and in themselves. Our ideal internship candidates are:

 

  • Sophomores, Juniors, or Seniors currently enrolled at a four-year institution
  • Majoring in an Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related field
  • Proactive, open-minded, eager to learn and willing to work hard as part of a team
  • Interested in FEA (finite element analysis)
  • Available full time for specified term (40 hours per week)
  • Must be a US Person (US Citizen or US Permanent Resident)

 

Compensation and Benefits

Intern/Co-op pay range for students pursuing a Bachelor's degree: $24.00 - 28.00/hour*

Intern/Co-op pay range for students pursuing a Master's degree: $28.00 - 32.00/hour*

*This range represents base pay. In addition, you may be eligible for additional benefits and compensation.
