Role purpose and overview
Organic traffic is key to the success of our product-led content to convert readers into shoppers across multiple verticals. We are looking for an enthusiastic self-starter who understands the important role search engines and publishers play in the user journey of online shoppers.
As an SEO Manager within Commerce you will support the Senior SEO Manager to administer our SEO strategy for multiple areas of Commerce where required (including, but not limited to, Sports, Travel, Betting, Affiliates and Finance) and report back on the performance of the live initiatives. An example of our product-led content predominantly sits within Telegraph Recommended.
The SEO team is a central resource across the Commerce business, providing support, insight and expertise in digital marketing. In this role you will work closely with a number of verticals and business units, including the Affiliate Partnerships, Travel, Editorial and / or Product teams.
Key responsibilities
Content Management
- Work with vertical leads to create a product led SEO & content strategy designed to increase revenue, traffic and rankings
- Owning & presenting this as a clear roadmap to senior stakeholders
- Producing keyword research for new or existing topics that have affiliate or lead generation revenue potential.
- Write clear briefs in a formulaic style that can be easily followed by writers with varying SEO knowledge.Reviewing new and refreshed articles once written and suggesting additional optimisations, ensuring they’re set up to succeed in the search engines once published
- Working with Editorial teams to create seasonal content plans for year ahead to maximise our traffic from high intent search queries & liaising with them to communicate rationale and and them make informed decisions on the priority order of workflow
- Manage & maintain processes including internal linking and tech / product led SEO & collaborate with other SEO teams across the company to proactively improve these.
- Liaise with other Commerce teams & SEO leads to ensure goals are aligned and any crossover is utilised
Strategy & Opportunities
- Work closely with the Analyst and Optimisation Manager to identify conversion rate and reporting issues and opportunities
- Closely analysing data around ranking, visibility, traffic and conversions with a view to proactively identify relevant trends and improve on growth opportunities
- Work to create competitor analysis reports, condensing and presenting to senior stakeholder
Reporting
- Ownership of ranking position & organic traffic for your vertical: monitoring positions and coming up with action plans to mitigate drops or capitalise on updates
- Management of SEO platforms such as Pi: actively monitoring competitor movements, category/total visibility and keeping our ‘top’ lists updated with relevant articles
Events
- Creating SEO optimised content plans for major sale events like Black Friday, Christmas, January sales etc
- Lead on real-time optimisations during these events, monitoring trends and performance in real-time and recommending improvements to pages or new content.
- Provide accurate and insightful live and post-performance analysis to stakeholders.
Essential skills required for the role
- Proven professional experience in SEO - primarily proficient in on-page & content strategy but having a good understanding of technical best practice
- Experience delivering strategic presentations to senior stakeholders
- Experience using Google Search Console and other analytical tools and SEO platforms.
- Numerate and fluent in aggregating and analysing core campaign performance metrics.
- Proficient in Google Sheets/Excel
- Interest in the latest SEO industry news - staying on top of latest updates and new releases
- Excellent problem solving skills - an inquisitive mind
- Good time management and prioritisation skills.
Additional skills useful for the role (but not necessary)
- Experience using SEO tools such as Ahrefs, SEMrush, ScreamingFrog or Lumar
- Experience in conversion optimisation or A/B testing
- Experience in editorial or newsroom environments
