Team

We are constructing the top data engineering practice in the UK, and our team build bespoke, mission critical data solutions for the UK Government as well as bluechip corporate clients across the EU.

We are looking for the top expert data engineers in the country, and aim to be the best data engineers in the world.

Profile

The Data Solutions Architect specialises in designing and implementing large-scale data processing solutions using distributed computing frameworks, AWS native components, and AWS cloud platforms. You should be comfortable designing and constructing bespoke solutions and components from scratch to solve the hardest problems.

You will be adept in Java, Scala, and big data technologies like Apache Kafka, Apache Flink or Apache Spark, and bring a deep understanding of engineering best practices.

This role involves scoping and sizing, and indeed estimating and costing, complex data engineering tasks for multi-member teams, leading the construction of robust, scalable data pipelines, and focusing on high-quality, production-grade code that runs lights out in production.

Key responsibilities of the role are summarised below

  • Design and implement large-scale data processing systems using distributed computing frameworks such as Apache Kafka, Apache Flink or Apache Spark
  • Architect cloud-based solutions capable of handling petabytes of data
  • Lead the automation of CI/CD pipelines for data engineering tasks
  • Size and scope projects, accurately estimating required resources and timelines for completion
  • Guide engineering teams through the development process, ensuring the highest quality and performance standards
  • Collaborate closely with Data Design Architects to ensure alignment with broader data strategy and governance
  • Performance management of up to 25 data engineers/scientists.
  • Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers
  • Provide thought leadership through public speaking and online communications
  • Supporting sales, bids, and presales activities
  • Excellent consultancy skills, and stakeholder management experience

In this role you are the bridge between enterprise architecture and hands-on coding, capable of accurately estimating and delivering data projects that handle petabytes of information - and guiding the organisation through a complex process of reviewing the requirements, and shaping the programmes to deliver in mission critical environments.

As a technology consultancy, we look for people who can deliver both exceptional technical solutions and work as true partners to the organisations we support. To do this you must be able to:

Communicate effectively verbally and in writing, demonstrated through:

  • Effectively explain complex technical solutions to a non-technical audience
  • Writing meaningfully to deliver clear information, and guidance
  • Giving impactful presentations, articulating clearly key points

Demonstrate critical thinking by:

  • Analysing and evaluating information
  • Using information gathered to present solutions and reach decisions
  • Displaying familiarity and comfort with a breadth of technologies (appropriate to the level of the role) and an appreciation of how they can be combined and applied to solve customer problems

Work in partnership with others to:

  • Effectively manage both internal and external stakeholders to ensure synergy
  • Collaborate meaningfully with all parties to ensure outcomes are reached effectively

Whilst having experience in a consultancy is beneficial, demonstrable experience in working with clients/external partners in other settings will always be considered.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
  • Proven experience in big data technologies and cloud platforms, with demonstrable experience on large scale projects
  • Deep expertise in Java, and Scala, and software engineering
  • Strong background in distributed computing frameworks, and scaled processing
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to communicate and inspire large teams
