The Core Finance and HR Technology team is an integral part of the wider tech function. Working closely with our Group Finance and HR teams to deliver and support business priorities across our back office financial systems. Encompassing Product Ownership, Technical Delivery Management, database administration and business analysis, our friendly, supportive team work together to drive action and deliver results.

The Role

As our Senior Product Owner you will manage and be responsible for the Financial Systems including Sage, Medius, Prima and Access Pay) as well as being responsible for feeding and overseeing work within the Tribe. You will support more junior members of the team in a management capacity, as well as with key product focusses such as prioritisation and benefit realisation.

In this role you will represent your Tribe and the work that goes on within, maintain business relationships with key finance business stakeholders across the group and develop roadmaps for key areas of strategic vision and focus. In this role you will support optimisation of existing products within your Tribe and keep Tribes connected, communicating, and sharing best practice. You will play a key role in the evolution of ways of working as well as quarterly planning.

Responsibilities

  • Using subject matter expertise to drive development of new and innovative ideas.
  • Developing and driving product area vision and strategy.
  • Consolidating Tribe focus areas into overall vision and roadmap, with metrics and dashboards defined to measure benefit realisation.
  • Align Tribe visions with overall strategy and vision and communicating this roadmap to stakeholders
  • Proactively identifying and managing interdependencies and working with delivery functions on the ‘when?’.
  • Building relationships with senior internal and external stakeholders.
  • Driving discovery for larger strategic/complex products.
  • Being involved with UX and development teams when validating concepts and products via POCs and user testing.
  • Defining and assessing product features and specifications.
  • Filtering feasible, viable products through the relevant Scrum teams to start delivery, with defined business case (in collaboration with finance and stakeholders) and defining success metrics.
  • Defining complex business rules including edge cases.
  • Prioritising requirements to ensure alignment metrics and effectively communicating prioritisation to the Product community, business, and engineering partners.
  • Anticipating and readily communicating cross-job function dependencies of all product decisions and ensuring that critical business issues are surfaced and considered.
  • Defining overall measures of product success and ensuring suitable tracking mechanics are in place.
  • Using quant/qual data to support business cases and measure product success.
  • Identifying opportunities to iterate based on data and identifying metrics to measure success.
  • Monitoring and communicating post deployment and overseeing outcomes for the Tribe, ensuring these are communicated to stakeholders.

Requirements

  • 3+ years’ experience of working with financial systems
  • Experience working within a fast-paced online retail company (desirable)
  • Proficient experience with Agile Management Tools such as Atlassian ticket/issue tracking (JIRA)
  • Experienced in managing and leading the product development lifecycle to reduce time to market, improve product quality and ensure product success.
  • Full understanding and experience working within Agile and Waterfall delivery models.
  • Experienced in documenting complex customer and business requirements to action, prioritising the business expectations/requirements.
  • Good technical understanding of products and services as well as products upstream/downstream within the wider architecture.
  • Clear, concise, and organised communication.
  • Knowledge and understanding of how to apply user-centred design methodologies to develop new products or enhance existing products based on analysis of competitor information.
  • Ability to make recommendations to modify existing products and explore new ones based on industry trends and challenges.
  • Has previously line managed (1 or 2 direct reports minimum, providing coaching and mentoring.
  • A collaborative individual with excellent relationship building skills, ability to self-motivate and consistently stive to work within and challenge others to working to a best practice agile environment.
