Embedded in a worldwide network Mercedes-Benz Research & Development North America continuously strives to remain at the forefront of successful automotive research and development. MBRDNA is headquartered in Silicon Valley, California, with key areas of Autonomous Driving, Advanced Interaction Design, Digital User Experience, Machine Learning, Customer Research, and Open Innovation. In Farmington Hills, Michigan, the focus is on Powertrain and eDrive technology as well as in Long Beach, where the teams test durability of the latest driver assistant and telematic systems. The Digital Hub in Seattle focusses on developing a cloud architecture and building out the cloud platform for the next generation of connected car services. The Testing and Regulatory Affairs Division in Ann Arbor and the Advanced Vehicle Design in Carlsbad complete the competence center. Responsible for assuring the quality of vehicle emissions tests conducted in Ann Arbor Emission Lab per US regulatory and Mercedes-Benz Cars (MCB) standards including the testing and the equipment and methods used for the testing. Relocation assistance (domestic or international) is not provided for this position.
Job Responsibilities:
Check the quality and validity of Vehicle Emissions Testing conducted in the Emissions Lab, according to MBC and US Regulatory Standards (EPA 40CFRPart 86) and CFR 1065 and 1066
Assure that the testing procedures and equipment used in the procedure are compliant with MBC and US Regulatory standards - including the creating of new documentation and the revision of existing documentation
Communicate with the emission Lab customers to insure that their requested testing goals are achieved within the capabilities of the emission lab
Communicate with customers for resolution of issues that arise during testing
Oversee vendors to implement service, installation and repair of measurement equipment for emissions testing- manage time-lines and deliverables of these projects
Collaborate with Mercedes-Benz Emissions testing facilities worldwide- participate in regular meetings
Participate in Audit activities for Mercedes-Benz Emissions Test Facilities worldwide as required
Minimum Qualifications:
3-5 years of experience
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Math, or Science. Quality Engineering, Supplier Quality Engineering, or related experience
Working knowledge of Vehicle Emissions Testing standards and regulatory requirements
Working knowledge of Emissions Measurement Methods and Equipment
Working knowledge of US Federal (Tier2, Tier3) and California (LEV 2, LEV 3) Emissions Standards
The fully trained individual must develop and maintain comprehensive knowledge of:
Company policies and procedures
Company goals and vision
Departmental practices and procedures
Interdepartmental relationships and their effect on company, departmental and individual goals
Software that is applicable to the job including Microsoft Office tools
Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with Combustion Engines and Emissions Controls is a plus
Experience with light duty automotive emissions testing is desired but not required
QA/QC background/experience
Experience with quality improvement tools and techniques is a plus but not required (i.e., DFSS, Six Sigma, Fault Tree Analysis, FMEA, QFD, etc.)
Experience with Horiba emissions measurement and analysis systems
Microsoft Suite - Excel, macros
