Legal & Compliance Coordinator at Our Future Health

Job Descrption

We are looking for a Legal & Compliance Coordinator to join our growing Legal team, grow with the company and progress your career. Reporting directly to our Data Protection Officer and working closely with the organisation’s legal counsels, the Access Team and Ethics team, you will be involved in all things legal, data protection, ethics, access, risk and compliance and have the opportunity to take ownership as the company continues to grow. 

Our Future Health will be the UK’s largest ever health research programme, bringing people together to develop new ways to detect, prevent and treat diseases. We are a charity, supported by the UK Government, in partnership with charities and industry. We work closely with the NHS and with public authorities across all nations and regions of the UK.

Our plan is to bring together 5 million volunteers from right across the UK who will be asked to contribute information to help build one of the most detailed pictures we have ever had of people’s health. Researchers will be able to use this information to make new discoveries about human health and diseases. So future generations can live in good health for longer.

What you’ll be doing

In this role, you will provide legal assurance to the UK’s largest ever health research programme and monitor Our Future Health’s adherence to its contractual requirements.

Your key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Supporting with legal related needs of a diverse group of stakeholders, including the organisation’s legal counsels, the Data Protection, Access and Ethics teams.
  • Updating, reviewing and maintaining standard contract documents & templates (i.e. NDAs).
  • Handling research terms & conditions enquiries serving as the first point of contact for the Legal team.
  • Drafting, reviewing, amending and negotiating research terms & conditions under the guidance of the organisation’slegal counsels.
  • Monitoring the organisation’s contractual commitments to external parties, coordinating their operationalisation across the board and tracking our adherence to these commitments where appropriate.
  • Assisting with the review of complex study applications and supporting with the set up of an internal framework for the assessment of third parties applying for access to our resource, always with support and guidance from the Access team.
  • Supporting with legal, data protection and ethical assessments and dealing with complex data subject requests, always with support and guidance from our Data Protection and Ethics teams.
  • Monitoring the Legal team’s inbox and escalating any matters appropriately.
  • Conducting legal research, including regulations, case law, and precedents.
  • Assisting the Procurement Team and/or other teams with contractual drafting from time to time as necessary.
  • Reviewing and drafting internal Legal & Compliance policies and processes and educating the organisation on how to comply with these policies and processes.

Requirements

To succeed, you will have some of the following skills and experience:

  • Passed Legal Practice Course (LPC) OR law degree OR CILEx (Chartered Institute of Legal Executives) qualification OR Paralegal apprenticeship, certificate, diploma or higher diploma (essential).
  • Previous paralegal/legal assistant/contract management experience gained in a law firm or in-house environment.
  • Prior experience within the life sciences / academic / health research sectors is desirable, but not essential.
  • Strong interest in law with a desire to develop your understanding of the legal system.
  • Strong change and project management skills, including the ability to work unsupervised, manage time well, prioritise effectively and handle multiple deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong organisational and research skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • An enthusiastic, can-do attitude and ability to remain calm in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with the appropriate discretion.
  • High level of IT proficiency (preferably with advanced level experience with MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel and basic experience of MS Sharepoint).

  • £33,000 - £36,000 basic salary per annum.
